Rega's new RP1 turntable was designed and engineered to achieve outstanding performance way beyond the expectations of a product at this price point. For even more amazing performance, this version of the RP1 includes the enjoyment-boosting Rega Performance Pack. The Performance Pack includes the Rega Bias 2 moving magnet phono cartridge, an upgrade drive belt, and the high-performance turntable mat usually supplied with the more expensive P3, P5, and P7 turntables. Also included in this money-saving package is a handy and easy-to-use cartridge alignment protractor. Excellent build quality, reliability and ease of use combine to make a product, which will offer a lifetime of musical enjoyment. Omitting all the usual gimmicks allowed Rega to concentrate the manufacturing costs on the high quality parts necessary to reproduce records accurately. The RP1 uses a highly accurate manual speed change rather than an automatic mechanism. This approach eliminates speed inconsistencies and also reduces wear of the drive belt. It has a huge added benefit, too. The money which Rega saved is spent across the design, including a new hand assembled RB101 tonearm, precision main bearing, phenolic resin flywheel effect platter, and a high quality low vibration motor which would normally be used on a turntable costing two or three times the amount. The RP1 also comes ready-fitted with a great sounding Ortofon OM5e moving magnet cartridge. You'll enjoy the benefits of the upgraded drive belt in this package. The 'increased drive' results in greater speed stability and accuracy. This is especially noticeable during extended musical notes and greatly adds to the musical enjoyment of the turntable. The Performance Pack comes with a high quality turntable mat manufactured from 100 percent natural wool. Because wool has stiffer fibers than synthetic manmade materials, the wool mat directly improves coupling between the RP2's phenolic resin platter and the vinyl LP.

Wonderful entry level TT

If you are like me, you don't have six figures to invest in a turntable. The Rega RP-1 features the same engineering as its more expensive brothers, but with a price that makes it easy to own. Playback with the Performance Pack is very good. Don't let the light weight of this machine fool you. It does the job!
