Product Description
Rega's new RP1 turntable was designed and engineered to achieve outstanding performance way beyond the expectations of a product at this price point. Excellent build quality, reliability and ease of use combine to make a product, which will offer a lifetime of musical enjoyment. Omitting all the usual gimmicks allowed Rega to concentrate the manufacturing costs on the high quality parts necessary to reproduce records accurately. "Rega's new RP-1 turntable might just be the perfect source for Stereophile's new monthly column, 'The Entry Level'," reports Stephen Mejias in his Stereophile blog for July 30, 2010. "All the cool kids are going to want one of these." The RP1 uses a highly accurate manual speed change rather than an automatic mechanism. This approach eliminates speed inconsistencies and also reduces wear of the drive belt. It has a huge added benefit, too. The money which Rega saved is spent across the design, including a new hand assembled RB101 tonearm, precision main bearing, phenolic resin flywheel effect platter, and a high quality low vibration motor which would normally be used on a turntable costing two or three times the amount. The RP1 also comes ready-fitted with a great sounding Ortofon OM5e moving magnet cartridge. The minimalist design of the Rega RP1 and the use of extremely high quality components ensure that this turntable will last for many years - just like every product that Rega manufactures. The RP1 is the first in a new generation of Rega turntables offering far greater performance than their predecessors. The performance of this amazing new product will knock you out. The only thing entry level about the RP1 is the unexpectedly low price!

Couldn't have asked for more.

I don't really know what budget model stand alone turntables such as Audio Technica sound like, but I do know what my Crosley combo CD/turntable sounded like: crap. The RP1 is in short, not crap at all. I knew this Rega was one of the popular "entry level" audiophile turntables when I bought it, but honestly, I can't imagine a $1000+ table sounding much better! If you want great sound and simple but pleasing looks, this is it, guys. One thing I noticed after listening to a record on this player was that, compared to CDs, the stereo separation was night and day better. Clarity was amazing as well and I'm sure could get even greater with another cartridge, which I would have no idea how to install, being a vinyl noob, if you will. So even having no reference point other than the aforementioned Crosley, and possibly making myself look dumb, I can honestly say this is the best turntable I can imagine. And if there are better ones, and with the prices I'm seeing, I'm sure there are, I'm very happy to be in the "entry level". Sound quality can only go up from here.

Welcome back to real hi-fi!
By Roberto
I love the simplicity of this great turntable. I will eventually upgrade the cartridge, but at this starting price point, great value for the money. Go Vinyl! I never realized how much I missed it until I plugged this baby in and starting spinning Nina, Miles, and all my other favorites. Now, I cannot go past a record store without thumbing my way through those old, dusty, sticky albums so I can go home and enjoy them on my new Rega. Get it!

Great record player for the price. Highly recommended for audiophiles with a tight budget. Also a great player to upgrade over time.
