Product Description
Since its first appearance the late 1990's, Pro-Ject's Debut range has been a must-buy for an entry-level turntable. In just over a decade, the Debut model has sold several hundred thousand units and has elevated the status of turntables by appearing in museum collections and gracing the pages of high-fashion and lifestyle magazines. Now the Debut Carbon sets a new cost/performance standard with a higher level of build precision, sound quality and aesthetics. The Debut III was a hard act to follow, but Pro-Ject has one again challenged convention by offering even better performance at an easily affordable price.
The most profound upgrade is the addition of the 8.6-inch single-piece tube carbon fiber tonearm that increases stiffness while decreasing unwanted resonances, resulting in a higher fidelity presentation of your treasured recordings. Fitted to the carbon fiber arm is a true high-end cartridge, the 2M Red phono cartridge by Ortofon. This arm/cartridge combination is delivers exceptional tracking and recovery of the musical nuance found within the record's grooves.
The attractive, resonance-reducing MDF platter supports a heavier 300mm diameter metal platter for smoother rotation and lower wow and flutter. Additionally, a felt record mat is employed for superior record support and coupling. The platter and plinth assembly sits upon four-point O-ring feet designed for energy absorption, and the plinth-mounted motor is isolated by a new SorbothaneTM suspension to keep unwanted noise and vibration to a bare minimum. Plinth-mounted RCA output jacks allow for the use of higher quality interconnects for even better sonic performance. The Debut Carbon is offered in several high-gloss fashion colors and a full-sized hinged dustcover is included.

Pro-Ject Debut Carbon (white) - Great value
By J. Thompson
Purchased this from ListenUp, shipped Prime thanks to friends/family giving giftcards for the holidays. The factory packaging is safely inside Amazon packaging; there was modest wear on the external (Amazon) box, the interior box had a slight dent on one corner - the turntable arrived in perfect condition. I was slightly nervous about ordering this online but a local dealer isn't available. Very happy with shipping materials and condition at delivery. Go Prime! The setup was straightforward, for a turn table, with "fair" instructions. The set-up video on the manufacturer's website (embeded youtube video for a Debut III) is for a different model, it was useful for me. The lid does not align perfectly when closed, it slits slightly askew with the front left slightly over the edge. A very slight warp is visible. The manual references a single adapter - I did not find that in the box. I don't own any so did not count that against the rating, but take note if you do.The sound is awesome, the preadjusted cartridge is perfectly aligned. Note: The manual says you can skip that step due to pre alignment, but I did confirm. The counterweight and anti-skate are a snap if you know turntables or watch the Debut III video. The manual confirms that with the included Ortofon 2M Red cartridge the counter weight is set to 17.5mN, and anti-skate is the middle/second stub groove. Easy. Mine is installed on an antique, wood end table of adequate mass, but for the price this is a very well built, high feature turntable that shouldn't be too demanding in placement. It's solidly built, with a few nice features: heavy platter, nice felt, suspended motor, the mentioned 2M Red, and of course a completely carbon fiber tone arm.If it means anything to you, the manufacturer's packaging confirms/touts it as 2012-13 EISA (European Imaging and Sound Association) Best Product. It's a helluva value, and big step up from a legacy family TT from my parents. My audition included the Oct 2012 release of 180g The Doors, Hollywood Bowl '68 2lp set, followed by Siamese Dream (Pumpkins). I started writing this after hitting starting side B of Miles Davis on 180g Kind of Blue.I almost gave this review 4 stars because people always tell me they don't believe 1 or 5 star reviews. I couldn't do it, this set up has me very excited. I recommend the table and would buy from the seller again.Irrelevant Disclaimers/Notes/FWIW:-I did splurge and used BBY Reward Zone points to pick up Audio Quest 2 meter Golden Gate RCA plugs on the way home before setting her up. Slight noticeable difference, and I do like the "looks" of the cable since it is visible on my installation. For the price, there may not be a big enough improvement from Monster THX cables I compared with (and half the price) for some, but every system is unique and every listener's ear is different.-I'm driving 7.2 through a Marantz sr7007 receiver. On "Pure" (unprocessed 2 channel stereo), the sound is excellent. There's something to listening in stereo, but ultimately, I'm happier so far with multichannel stereo. Between the warmth of the vinyl, and the wider soundstage throughout the room, I also enjoy what processing power can do.-Speakers are close to 15 years old, and not up to par with the rest. Bose Acoustimass 15 (5.1 double jewel cubes, all the same not a special center channel and bass module). Left/Right Back surrounds are Bose 151. The Audessey set up on the receiver did a pretty good job of getting sound deadon. The .2 woofer is a Klipsch ProSub 1000. With the crossovers and everything dialed in it's effective, clear, and well rounded. Certainly not audiophile grade, but in combination it's where I'm at.
